I’ve known Jo fo a few years now, and she is a breath of fresh air. I love her positivity as a fellow blind person. We need more of that in our community. She is also a total bada** who lives without fear. And all those attributes make her an amazing advocate.
Karan, Disability advocate, keynote speaker, content creator, and communicator
Karan Nagrani is renowned for his distinct voice on vision loss, identity, and inclusion. Diagnosed at age 11 with Usher syndrome, a rare genetic condition that leads to progressive vision and hearing loss, Karan has lived with diminishing sight and hearing for most of his life, now retaining only a tiny fraction of his vision.
Karan uses his lived experience to educate and challenge societal perceptions of blindness and disability. Through his creative work—including informative and humorous social media content under the tagline Pretty Fly for a Blind Guy—he highlights the spectrum of blindness and encourages greater awareness, empathy, and accessibility.
In addition to his online advocacy, Karan is a sought‑after keynote speaker and master of ceremonies, blending insightful storytelling with humour to open conversations in workplaces, events, and community forums. He has served as a Community Ambassador for major cultural events like the Midsumma Festival and Darwin Pride, and has been emcee for gatherings such as the Blind Australian of the Year Awards.

Karan also works in community engagement with organisations such as Guide Dogs Victoria, where he supports donor and community relations while championing disability inclusion and intersectional representation.
Through advocacy, storytelling, and public engagement, Karan inspires others—especially within the disability and LGBTQIA+ communities—to embrace identity, challenge stereotypes, and build more inclusive, understanding societies.
